This MA gave me great insights into the Irish TV, film, and theatre industries. One week you’re getting advice from development executives at top production companies, the next from professional playwrights with active shows, and the week after that you’re being shown how to write a radio play by an American Fulbright scholar. The lecturers and artist-in-residence were very helpful and gave consistent support. Most importantly I left with a solid portfolio of work, which has benefited me greatly. Having a TV pilot, series outline, one-pager, multiple short film scripts, and a radio play treatment – all made with consistent professional feedback - is more valuable than I probably understood going into the course. During the course I was selected to participate in the BBC Writersroom Voices programme, while a script I wrote for the MA won “Film Script of the Year” at the National Student Media awards. I’ve been in a position to submit my work to various schemes and opportunities, e.g. RTÉ Radio, BBC Open Call, and 4Screenwriting. I’ve also had some “general meetings”, which were a direct result of the combination of the projects developed on the course and the Voices programme.
