IADT has won a New Foundations Award from the Irish Research Council to explore the use of immersive technologies in the cultural and art/design sector.

We are delighted to share the news that Dr Elaine Sisson at IADT has won a New Foundations Award from the Irish Research Council to explore the use of immersive technologies in the cultural and art/design sector.

This project is called ‘Digital Storytelling for Museum Educators’, aided by research assistant, Ella Fitzpatrick of IADT, and is specifically focused on exploring technologies of digital storytelling to collaborate on, and create innovative teaching and learning resources and professional training with educators in the museum sector. Through a partnership with the Irish Museums Association IADT will be working with museum and art/design educators in the use of virtual reality (VR) to promote and enhance knowledge of the makers, materials and histories.

This new project is one of 67 projects which will reach communities across the country and beyond, focusing on diverse societal challenges and government policy issues. The funding from the IRC will enable up to 15 participants to take part in a workshop facilitated by IADT + Creative Futures Academy called ‘Digital Storytelling for the Metaverse’.

The project is currently registering participants for the workshop titled ‘Storytelling for the Metaverse’, facilitated by the Creative Futures Academy. Participants will undertake training in the virtual reality equipment and assess how it may best be applied in their museums. IADT’s research will be concerned with analysing the possibilities and effectiveness of investing in immersive tech. Closing date is Friday 17 February, 2023.
