Thursday 27th November, Furthr Board, Guinness Enterprise Centre

Furthr’s mission is to provide practical hands-on startup supports to entrepreneurs to accelerate their journey from idea to funded business. As part of the Creative Boardroom initiative, Chair of the Board, Deirdre Smith, invited our team to facilitate in a ‘design sprint’ at the Guinness Enterprise Centre in Dublin 8. Deirdre was one of the Chartered Directors who had taken part in Phase 1 of the programme.

This practical and engaging session demonstrated how design thinking can foster collective problem-solving and enhance awareness of both climate challenges and opportunities for leadership impact and it offered board members a unique opportunity to “raise the temperature” and address climate challenges with furthr.

The workshop was led by facilitators from the programme including:

  • Lara Hanlon, Lecturer in Design Thinking at IADT, design strategist, sustainability advocate
  • Lucy McKenna, Learning Specialist, facilitator and coach, and co-founder of The Brave Lab;
  • Pace Borza Butterly, Coordinator, Creative Boardroom: Collaborate4Climate

This session was intended as short but focused intervention to demonstrate how design-led processes foster a collective approach to problem-solving and increased awareness of climate challenges and opportunities.

What did the Workshop Cover?

Over a focused 2 hour session, participants were guided through a design-led methodology to:

    • Set a vision for the impact they wished to achieve at board level
    • Define and frame key climate challenges
    • Iterate through possible solutions
    • Identify tangible actions to implement on the boards on which they sit

The event took place at in the Guinness Enterprise Centre where the exhibition is currently on show.

Creative Boardroom: Collaborate4Climate Exhibition at the Guinness Enterprise Centre

The Guinness Enterprise Centre has been hosting the Creative Boardroom: Collaborate4Climate Exhibition on the 4th floor since 13th November and it will run until the end of the month. The installation brings together creativity, climate action and collaborative leadership—values that strongly resonate with the GEC community. As part of the exhibition, members were invited to take personal climate pledges, committing to small but meaningful changes that reduce their environmental impact. From cutting down on single-use plastics to opting for greener transport and reducing energy waste, the installation encouraged everyone to reflect on daily habits and take actionable steps toward a more sustainable future.
