UCD Festival 2023

10/06/2023

About

The UCD Festival is a fun-filled day and showcases the very best of UCD through performances, engaging talks, hands-on science, interactive exhibits and so much more.

The UCD Festival is a day when the university opens their doors to the friends and families of their local community, staff, students and alumni, providing an opportunity to see behind the scenes, discover something new and meet our students and world-class academics.

UCD is constantly evolving with the changing world and festival goers will get to see first-hand some of our breakthrough discoveries and how UCD is addressing societal challenges.

CFA is excited to participate in the festival. Come find us in the CULTURE ZONE. Immerse yourself in an exciting programme of talks, performances, poetry readings, screenings, workshops, and exhibitions.

Join us for screenings of films showcasing work by students from our CFA Producing Music Film Drama module on Saturday 10th June at the Student Village. Check out other CFA event with Dónal Lunny and students of UCD Traditional Music Practices below and the full programme HERE

Dónal Lunny & Students of UCD Traditional Music Practices

Main Stage

2.45 pm  – 3.15pm

The UCD Creative Futures Academy is proud to present this performance from the students of our new Traditional Music Practices module, with our very special guest Artist-in-Residence, Dónal Lunny. In this performance, a small group of our trad students will present a selection of jigs, reels and hornpipes, alongside their own original compositions, which they developed during the course of this unique module.

The group is led by Dr. Peter Moran, Assistant Professor in Composition and Performance in the UCD School of Music, and by Dónal Lunny, one of the most influential figures in Irish traditional music over the past 50 years. Lunny is a founding member, arranger and producer of such groups as Planxty, The Bothy Band and Moving Hearts, and he is currently UCD Creative Fellow with the Creative Futures Academy.

You can drop in to this event whenever you’d like, but don’t forget to register for the Family Fun Zone if you wish to attend.
