Join IADT, 100 Archive and Design & Crafts Council Ireland for a Design Week 2026 symposium exploring creative practice and the archive, Design Practice and the Archive | From Studio to Archive and Back, at IADT Carnegie Library, Tuesday 10 November, 9.30am-4pm.
This one-day symposium will bring together perspectives from across design, art, research, education and archival practice to explore how archives are created, preserved, interpreted and used in creative work. Through presentations, discussion and shared perspectives, the symposium will consider the role archives play in documenting creative practice, preserving cultural knowledge and shaping our understanding of design, history and creative work.
The programme will explore a range of themes, from collecting, documentation and custodianship to creative responses, teaching and interpretation, as well as the gaps, silences and stories that remain within archival collections. Structured around the themes What Goes In and What Comes Out, the symposium will invite attendees to reflect on what is preserved, whose stories are represented, and how archives continue to inform and inspire contemporary creative practice.
