10 – 1 pm, Friday 13th November, Media Department, National College of Art and Design.
BA Students and postgrads from all three CFA institutions (UCD, IADT and NCAD) are warmly welcomed to “Radiant Language” the second in our Slow Media Workshop series exploring materiality and language.
This workshop will explore the relationship between moving image and language through typography on 16mm film. Drawing on concrete poetry, where the form of a text carries meaning alongside its content, participants will treat type as a physical material, manipulating and animating it directly on the film strip.
At 24 frames per second, language becomes radiant motion. Letters are no longer fixed on the page but made of light, flowing, merging and dissolving on screen to create new, fluid meanings between one frame and the next.
No prior experience with film or typography is required.
Space is limited please contact nideckerc@staff.ncad.ie to register.
Supported by CFA’s Communities of Practice funding.
