How does art in the city of Dublin reflect our relationship with this ever changing urban landscape?
Fringe Was Here is a programme led by Michelle Browne looking at the archive of works made in and for the city across the 30 years of the Dublin Fringe Festival. In conjunction with this programme you are invited to join us at NCAD for a panel discussion looking at the role of art in the city of Dublin and exploring the changes in the city over the past 30 years.
Joining Michelle Browne are: Owen Boss (ANU Productions), Bill Harris (Visual Artist), Frank McDonald (Journalist and Author of The Destruction of Dublin) and Dr. Karen Till (Cultural Geographer and Lecturer at Maynooth University) to discuss how art has responded to Dublin city in the past and how it can create a space for conversation about how we as a society would like the city to change and grow.
At a time of change and upheaval, how can we look back at the past to learn and develop responses to our present and future?
What can art tell us about Dublin City? Join us for a tour of the capital as we dive into the Dublin Fringe Festival archive of site-specific artworks that got under the skin of what made Dublin tick. Developed with a group of artists in the fields of visual art, theatre, architecture and urban design, exploring 30 years of artists responding to Dublin, we’ll ask:
How do we understand the city?
How does it shape our lives, and how can we shape the city?
What can we learn from the past to develop responses to our present and future?
