Explore how the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) are being transformed by the Digital-Green Transition, the integration of digital innovation with environmental sustainability.
As part of the European Union’s ambition to achieve climate neutrality and digital competitiveness, this course focuses on how creative sectors are evolving toward a low-carbon, resource-efficient, and technologically advanced future.
As a learner, you will develop the ability to critically assess the role of digital innovation in shaping industry practices while addressing key social, economic, and environmental responsibilities. The course introduces you to important concepts such as the circular economy, ethical considerations in a digital world, and the impact of technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Big Data on sustainability within the CCI.
You will also gain practical skills in applying tools and methodologies to analyse current digital business models, evaluate their impact on industry, and assess their contribution to sustainability and circular economy principles.
This course is designed to support learners in understanding current and future industry needs, enabling them to engage with and contribute to a more sustainable and digitally driven creative economy.
The digital green transition refers to the evolution toward a more sustainable and digitally advanced economy and society. It is the process of integrating digital innovation with environmental sustainability to create a low carbon, resource efficient and technologically driven economy. It is a core element in the EU’s strategic objective in becoming both climate neutral (European Green Deal) and digitally competitive (Digital Europe Programme).
The aim of this course therefore is to enable you to critically assess digital innovation in industry while addressing current and future industry requirements focusing on social, economic and environmental responsibility.
A further objective is to ensure that you can use appropriate tools and methodologies to analyse current digital business models and their effect on industry and on sustainability and the circular economy.
Assessment is 100% project based. There are two continuous assessments:
Continuous Assessment 1: A case study analysis.
You will select and then analyse a real-world creative or cultural organisation and evaluate how it currently and how it could potentially integrate digital tools to reduce environmental impact.
Continuous Assessment 2: Generate a policy brief
You will generate a policy brief for a creative organisation or cultural agency setting out the advantages and disadvantages of rolling out a digital green transition programme in your chosen organisation. The policy brief would demonstrate an understanding of the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals, EU Green Deal & Creative Europe. The assessment takes interactive debate form with learners being expected to be able to coherently propose or oppose the merits of the argument.
The course will run for 8 weeks from October to December 2026.
Classes will take place 2 evenings per week (4 hours per week in total) online.

Min Entry RequirementsAn undergraduate qualification level 7 degree in a cognate discipline. Those without this qualification may be considered provided they can demonstrate Level 7 Degree equivalence, which can be verified through the RPL (recognition of prior learning) process.
