On Saturday 10th May, CFA@UCD was delighted to celebrate the UCD Trad Album Launch broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1. Our students were excited to perform on RTÉ’s flagship traditional Irish music radio show, Céilí House. Kieran Hanrahan was joined by staff and students from the UCD traditional music group who have just made their debut CD with support from Paddy Glackin and Donal Lunny.
This project has been supported with Public Engagement Funds from Creative Futures Academy (CFA) and led by Dr. Peter Moran, Assistant Professor of Composition and Performance in the UCD School of Music and Lecturer in Traditional Music Practice and Techniques of Songwriting as part of the elective offering for undergrads with CFA.
Listen to the full show below and the ensemble from 5.40mins onwards. The students spoke about their compositions and performed their work live in the studio – an incredible opportunity and experience!
Seven Springs, is a brand new composition written by Dónal Lunny in 2023 especially for the Trad Music ensemble. The Traditional Music Practices ensemble was founded in 2022 during Dónal Lunny’s tenure as Artist-in-Residence with the UCD School of Music and the Creative Futures Academy with guests artists having included Paddy Glackin and Zoë Conway.
This CD showcases the remarkable achievements of our students in the first three years of this new CFA module. This project has been supported with Public Engagement Funds from Creative Futures Academy (CFA).
