CFA at UCD’s President’s Inaugural Lecture

Musician in Residence Dónal Lunny was invited to perform at President Orla Feely’s inaugural lecture in UCD.

On Monday 25th September, CFA@UCD Musician in Residence Dónal Lunny was invited to perform at President Orla Feely’s inaugural lecture in O’Reilly Hall with over 700 attendees.
Accompanied by students from the Traditional Music Practices module and Dr. Peter Moran (UCD School of Music & Creative Futures Academy), Dónal shared the stage with other guests Israel Olatunde, UCD Sportsperson of the Year 2023 and Stiofán Ó Briain, Poet and PhD student in Modern Irish at UCD, as well as the UCD Choral Scholars.
Traditional Music Practices is co-taught by Dr. Peter Moran, Assistant Professor in Composition and Performance in the UCD School of Music, and Dónal Lunny, who is one of the most influential figures in Irish traditional music over the past 50 years. Lunny is a founding member, arranger and producer of such groups as Planxty, The Bothy Band and Moving Hearts.
In her inaugural lecture UCD President Professor Orla Feely said UCD is and has always been a place “that makes a difference” and reflecting on her own journey over the past 40 years, she drew on the enormous economic and social progress of Ireland to illustrate her hope for the University to leave a permanent mark on the challenges facing humanity.
