Professional Skills for Creative Industries

This short course is designed to introduce third-level creative arts educators to laser cutters. Participants will learn how to create digital files and use laser cutters. The course responds to the need for creative arts educators to enhance their professional development and support novel work in their own practice and by their students.

During the course, you will learn to:

  • Generate basic 2D vector files that are suitable for laser cutting,
  • Select appropriate materials,
  • Use laser cutters safely, and
  • Make a bespoke piece of laser cut work.

You will be assessed through participation/attendance and on the successful completion of a piece of laser cut work.

Timetable

The course is delivered on campus from 10am to 2pm on: 1st November, 1st December and 12th December 2022.

Note: Self-directed study will be necessary between sessions to generate artwork files.

What are the Entry Requirements?

  • Leaving Certificate Examination (Level 5 Award) or equivalent.
  • Applicants without this qualification may also be considered based on their prior experience and learning through IADT’s RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) process.

Note: Entry is restricted to post-secondary educators working in a student-facing role in the creative arts (lecturer, technician, PLC teacher, tutor-demonstrator, etc.)

Foundational experience with 2D vector drawing software (e.g. Illustrator/CAD) is advised.
