This workshop will show you how to capture the essence of the pose using graphic principles – lines of action, rhythm and exaggeration to create expressive drawings.

• Learn the basics of stop-motion animation.
• We will work primarily with paper cut-out and collage animation techniques to create engaging animated scenes.
• Become familiar with industry-standard software for stop motion (Dragonframe) as well as accessible shooting options, to facilitate future projects and WFH. 
• Students will learn specific animation principles and techniques in a series of short exercises. Finally, they will design and animate their own scene.

Using your smartphone to produce creative moving image content.

This workshop aims to provide a holistic understanding of the climate crisis, nurture emotional resilience, encourage nature connectedness, equip you with effective communication skills, and hopefully empower you to take tangible, meaningful actions in your personal and professional lives.  

• This workshop will give you an overview of how to bring an idea to life through moving images. 
• Each student will learn Camera, Sound, editing and directing.  Students will shoot and edit a nonfiction piece in a small team. Students will crew for each other. At the end of the workshop, we will have a screening of all the work. 
• This workshop will give you an opportunity to dip your toes into filmmaking.

• Learning the basics of 2D animation principles using programs such as Adobe Animate and After Effects. 
• Students will have the opportunity to learn animation skills over a series of small projects, with the aim of creating a character animation project by the end of the workshop.

• This workshop involves visiting galleries and museums and, through a close reading of buildings and artworks, examining what these spaces and objects can tell us about social history through looking and talking.

• The visits will also include conversations with artists and gallery/museum curators, including, for example, the Public Art Commissioner for Dublin City Council and the security guards at The Hugh Lane Gallery.

• It will look particularly at collecting and exclusion, how individuals and groups make social progress through art and protest, and how museums write and rewrite history.

• You will be introduced to Life Drawing for Animation practice, learning to simplify the information within your drawings using gestures and shapes.
• In this class, we will take individual frames from video footage of people and animals in motion and use them as a reference for a series of observational life drawings.
• We will also try some fun practice-sharing exercises to facilitate interdisciplinary connections.
