CFA at NCAD

NCAD offers an extensive range of studios, workshops and equipment, facilitating an energetic and creative learning environment. Working in a studio is what sets art and design education apart from other types of learning, encouraging creative development and peer learning.

CFA at NCAD has installed the research, development and prototyping facility ‘William Walsh’ that combines 3D fabrication technology with the skills of students and industry. It offers students and later-career creatives access to digital machinery for specific prototyping needs, with opportunities for those who are struggling to find appropriate routes to build more ambitious work.

CFA at UCD

CFA at UCD has developed two new facilities to support student creativity and digital skills. A Blackbox studio and media lab called ‘Trapdoor’ is housed in the former Dramsoc Theatre in the Newman Building, transforming the space into a multi-purpose facility to support teaching in drama, music, film, creative writing, and digital content creation. This state-of-the-art studio will be a major hub for CFA students and for public outreach, hosting performances, rehearsals, events and workshops. It is due to open in early 2024.

CFA at IADT

IADT leads the way in Immersive Storytelling with its recent CFA studio upgrades. Access to essential technologies in Virtual Production, Extended Reality, 3D Design and Spatial Audio presents opportunities to explore and collaborate across emerging, specialty areas including Virtual World Building, Character Design, Motion Tracking, VFX lighting, and Surround Sound.

CFA at IADT has installed an Atmos Dolby Studio. This is the only studio of this type in an Irish educational institution, which will facilitate the design of sound for cinema. It will also give students access to cutting-edge technology.
